Pictured above: Plenty of largemouth had an appetite for shiners over the weekend. I could’t keep my bait bucket full!
Fishing Report for Cape Cod
If you found yourself with a shiner below a float last weekend, it was probably a good day. Pickerel and plenty of largemouth turned on in some of the Cape’s ponds while we had a break from the curse of skim ice.
Over at Red Top Sporting Goods anglers have been reported catching healthy sized browns and rainbows on shiners in open water.
When open water is available fish are biting. They may be lethargic and slow to bite at times, but that doesn’t mean they aren’t hungry!
Have I said it enough? Shiners, shiners, shiners!
Fishing Forecast for Cape Cod
Well, unfortunately the coming week is less hopeful than last. With colder nights returning and cooler temps during the day the skim ice continues to haunt the dedicated anglers. Searching out open waters and soaking some bait is still the way to go. Spring fishing is right around the corner, finally seeing the light at the end of the tunnel.

Just waiting for the stripers to hurry up and get here.
