Northeast Region

Southern Luzerne County & Columbia County

Trout fishing across the district has been outstanding lately.  Water temperatures are cooling and waterways such as the Lehigh River, Wapwallopen Creek, Nescopeck Creek and Roaring Creek have been producing nice catches of trout.  The great fishing matched with the beautiful scenery this time of year and you can have a fantastic day on the water.  Also, Lily Lake and Briar Creek Lake have received fall stockings of Rainbow Trout; while Lake Irena has been stocked with Brook Trout.

Anglers on the Susquehanna River have reported smallmouth bass and walleye activity picking up as these fish begin to feed heavily for the upcoming winter months.  Panfish activity has also been good on FEW Reservoir.  The reservoir is at winter pool levels, so panfish are congregated and schooled.  Find the fish, and you should have no problems taking home enough for a fish fry!

Boaters are reminded of the Mandatory Cold Weather Life Jacket Wear period beginning November 1st and running through April 30th.  Anyone in a boat less than 16 feet in length, and any canoe or kayak regardless of size is required to wear a flotation device.

With the winter right around the corner, it’s not too early to begin thinking about the hard water season.  Now is the time to re-spool those tip ups and jigging poles.  Make sure your batteries for fish finders and underwater cameras are in working order and don’t forget to get that power auger tuned up and touch up those blades!

Western Bradford & Sullivan County

Rains over the weekend brought the level of the North Branch Susquehanna River up considerably.  Anglers after smallmouth are reporting highest success rates using crankbaits, black and copper colors were producing well near the Athens bridge.

Northern Luzerne County

All area waterways that get fall trout stockings have received their allotment.  Anglers have been finding success at Harveys Creek and Harveys Lake.  We have had to limit the areas we stock at Lake Took-A-While due to excessive algae and weed growth and can no longer stock fish at the flagpole.  We will look at things again in the spring and see if conditions are more suitable in that area then.

Brown trout have been seen cruising the shallows and attempting to run up the creek at the Access Area at Harveys Lake.  Anglers have been having spotty success bringing these beauties to hook.

The Susquehanna River has been seeing more boatable levels of flow lately and fishing has been improving steadily as water temperatures fall.  Now is a great time to get out and enjoy this autumn weather wetting a line no matter whether you are in a boat or a pair of waders.

Stream fishermen should be careful out there during this overlap with big game seasons and should consider wearing orange or other bright colors to differentiate themselves from local game.

REMINDER:
Anglers are reminded that fall is the time of year when Brook and Brown Trout spawn. When fishing, make sure you are mindful of where you step to avoid stepping on trout egg nests, also known as trout redds. The gravel in a trout redd will appear light in color/clean gravel. Most look like oval or round areas of clean gravel. Some are not much bigger than a frying pan size, others may be larger.

Clearfield County

Parker Dam was recently stocked with trout. Anglers are catching trout using a variety of techniques.

Clinton and Western Lycoming County

Cool water temperatures and increased water flow are providing good trout fishing across the County. Anglers should be prepared with alternate fishing opportunities if their favorite waterway gets too much rain over the next few days.

Rain is improving boating opportunities across the County; however, boaters should scout their locations prior to boating just in case rain events change their chosen waterway. Boaters are also reminded that November 1, 2019 begins the “Mandatory Cold weather Life Jacket Wear”. See above for more details.
