Pennsylvania Fishing Report – December 26, 2019

The first reports of the year are coming through for ice fishing with anglers hooking up with trout, bluegill, yellow perch, and crappie.

Erie County

Area Steelhead Streams

Anglers are catching Steelhead and Brown Trout throughout the streams.

Warren County

Allegheny River

Anglers are catching Walleye around Mead Island by the old power plant upstream from Starbrick Access Area using a variety of baits.

Kinzua Reservoir

Anglers are catching Walleye in Sugar Bay.

Northcentral Region

Tioga County

Hills Creek and Beechwood Lakes

The first reports of the year are coming through for ice fishing. Anglers are catching bluegill, yellow perch, and crappie on mousies and waxworms. Anglers report catching Trout through the ice at Beechwood.

REMINDER: Always check ice conditions yourself before heading out on the lake. It is a good idea to contact local sporting goods stores for ice condition updates prior to venturing out.

Clinton County

Fishing Creek

The water temperature is in the low 40s. Weather conditions over the next few days are favorable for fishing.

Anglers are reporting good success nymphing pocket water for hungry post-spawn Trout. Juju Baetis, Frenchie and pheasant tail nymphs are hot patterns right now.

Streamers are producing fish as well this time of year.

Centre County

Spring Creek

The water temperature remains in the 40s. Water conditions are good for fishing. Deeper pockets and tail outs of riffles are holding fish consistently.

Nymphing near the bottom is currently producing a lot of hook-ups for anglers. Anglers are having success using pheasant tails, hot spot sow bugs and walt’s worms. Egg imitations have been working as well.

Streamers are also a great option. Sculpin imitations have been working particularly well in darker pockets.

Northern Chester County

Marsh Creek Lake

Bluegills and crappies are taking mealworms and wax worms, minnows and small jigs and can be found in and around structure along or near the shore.

Bass fishing reports have been somewhat mixed. Anglers catching bass have reported taking them on the usual, jigs, spinners and crankbaits as well as natural bait. Best colors to use on Marsh Creek Lake are large black, purple, and pumpkin seed or dark green rubber worms. The best live baits are crayfish, minnows and nightcrawlers.

Muskies were caught on large lures on Marsh Creek Lake at the end of November and earlier this month.

Streams

The French, Pickering, East Brandywine, and, West Valley Creeks are low and clear. There is little to no pressure on the Delayed Harvest Artificial Lures sections of the E. Brandywine, Pickering & W. Walley Creeks.

Remember: you may never have bait in your possession in any of the Delayed Harvest Artificial Lures Only Areas. No fish may be had in your possession while fishing this section until June 15, 2020.
