Carbon County

Although the hunting season is underway there are several anglers still taking advantage of nicer weather to fish the district’s streams and lakes.  Anglers fishing the Pohopoco Creek downstream of the outlet pipe of Beltzville Lake have reported doing well catching trout.  However, anglers are reminded that this section of the Pohopoco Creek from the outlet of Beltzville Lake downstream to the cable across the creek at the Hideaway Hunting & Fishing Club is designated as a Class A Wild Trout Stream and Stocked Trout Water.  The Extended Trout Season on this section of stream from September 3, 2019 through February 29, 2020 is a No Harvest – Catch and Immediate Release Only.

The Aquashicola Creek, Buckwa Creek and Mauch Chunk Creek have also been providing good trout fishing opportunities.

Striped bass action at Beltzville Lake remains good along the shore at the boat rental cove and Pine Run cove.  Most successful anglers have been using chicken liver as bait.  Live bait and stick baits have also produced good results.

Boat anglers at Mauch Chunk Lake have reported nice catches of panfish and perch near the area of boat launch B.

Boaters are also reminded that the regulatory buoys such as Slow No Wake, Water Ski Zone have been removed from Beltzville Lake for the winter season.  Although the buoys have been removed, the regulations pertaining to the regulatory zones are still in effect and enforced.  Maps of Beltzville Lake are posted at each boat ramp indicating the regulatory zones.

Now is a good time for the ice anglers to prepare their hard water equipment for the upcoming ice fishing season.  Hopefully, the weather will cooperate, and the ice fishing season will be here shortly.

Northern Pike and Southern Wayne Counties

Cold nights have formed skim ice on the smaller empowerments limiting access to fishing opportunities and anglers are not reporting much success.

Lackawanna County

Cold weather and snow has engulfed the county and have anglers awaiting the ice fishing season.  There is no safe ice in Lackawanna County.  Remember the PA American Water Company reservoirs that are open to public fishing (Maple Lake, Dunmore #1 Reservoir, Curtis Reservoir, Elmhurst Reservoir and Griffin Pond) do NOT permit ice fishing.  A list of the regulations that govern activities at these reservoirs are posted on the message boards.
