Connecticut & Rhode Island Fishing Report – 2/20/2020 Update: Josh at Three Belles Outfitters in Niantic reported that there are some open water options for anglers who are willing to seek them out. He kayak-fished the Connecticut River this week and was able to locate some good smallmouth bass by seeking out warmer water. He also mentioned that CT River tributaries that are relatively warm compared to the 34-degree water in the main river are attracting pre-spawn pike. Fishing for holdover stripers in the tidal rivers has been pretty slow in the cold water, but the trout TMAs are fishing well.
No great news from the cod grounds. Captain Greg of the Frances Fleet in Narragansett reported a very tough day on the grounds on Monday the 17th. The weather was great but the fish just were not interested. Toward the end of the day they found a small handful, but overall very slow.
The weather is looking on the warm side this weekend, so get out make your own reports!
