Stocked Trout Waters

Anglers are reminded that all Trout Stocked Waters are now closed to fishing or bait harvesting, until 8:00 a.m. on Saturday, April 18, 2020. Please see the Pennsylvania Fish and Boat Commission website for stocking times and locations.

Anglers still can take advantage of trout fishing in quite a few streams in the districts as the Lehigh River (0.33 miles upriver from the railroad bridge at Glenn Onoko and downriver to Mauch Chunk Creek) is a Stocked Trout Water Open to Year-Round Fishing. However, anglers are reminded that during the period from March 1st to 8 am on April 18, the Regular Opening Day of Trout no trout may be taken or possessed.

On March 28, at 8 am, the Mentored Youth Trout Day will occur on the Trout Stocked Waters designated in the Regional Opening Day of Trout.  The Lizard Creek and the Mahoning Creek in Carbon County are the only two Trout Stocked Waters in the district which are part of the Regional Opening Day of Trout.  All other Trout Stocked Waters designated in the Regular Opening Day of Trout are closed.

On April 11, at 8 am, the Mentored Youth Trout Day will occur on the Trout Stocked Waters designated in the Regular Opening Day of Trout.

Youth anglers participating in the Mentored Youth Trout Days must obtain a 2020 Mentored Youth Permit or a Voluntary Youth Fishing License from the Commission and be accompanied by a licensed adult in order to participate.  Only youth anglers with a 2020 Mentored Youth Permit or a Voluntary Youth Fishing Permit may possess a total of two trout (combined species) with a minimum size of seven inches.  Adult anglers are prohibited from possessing trout.

Clinton County

Fishing Creek

Currently, the water temperature is in the low 40’s. The creek continues to maintain a desirable green color. Nymphing the slow-moving pocket water is working well for anglers right now. Stonefly and caddis larvae imitations are working well to entice hungry trout using this technique. Sculpin imitations are also producing fish.

Centre County

Spring Creek

The water temperature is in the 40’s and the creek continues to provide a great opportunity for angling. Anglers are currently catching the occasional fish on dry flies as the warmer temperatures are triggering the Blue-Winged Olive hatch. Nymphing is still proving to be the most effective technique. Hot patterns working well right now include Walt’s Worm and Dorsey’s Olive Scud.
