Saltwater fishing is slow on Cape Cod waters, but there are still reports of schoolies. Although there weren’t any tautog reports, they’re certainly still around. The problem becomes finding a safe weather window to target tog. The kettle ponds continue to produce stocked trout, smallmouth, and largemouth.
Cape Cod Fishing Report
Derek, at Red Top Sporting Goods in Buzzards Bay, says trout fishing continues to produce well for anglers using gold spoons and small jerkbaits. Smallmouth fishing has been pretty good in Plymouth and some of the ponds on Cape Cod. Derek says Ned Rigs have been a productive way to catch smallies; some anglers have been using a modified Wacky Ned Rig.
Gary, at Sports Port Bait & Tackle in Hyannis, says there have been good striper reports coming from Barnstable. Gary says there haven’t been any tautog reports, but there should be some fish on the rockpiles. The tackle shop is still stocking green crabs for anyone targeting tog. Transitioning to freshwater, some anglers have been buying Daredevil and Mooselook Wobbler lures for trout. Don’t overlook largemouth bass and topwater frogs, Gary says.
Cape Cod Fishing Forecast
Freshwater anglers can find stocked trout, largemouth, and smallmouth bass. On the saltwater side of things, there are still some bass in Cape Cod Bay, but reports have been quiet from the Canal. It’s still worth trying the east end of the Canal for some schoolies or small slot-sized stripers. Hitting the rock piles at Buzzards Bay and the Elizabeth Islands for tautog is another option as well.
