Butler County

Lake Arthur

As temperatures start to rise, people are starting to put their fishing rods down and pick their paddles up. The dog days of summer are among us and fish are moving from the shallows to deeper water. For bass, the always dangerous stick worm can be dragged across the bottom, floated, whacky rigged or Texas rigged. If the bite slows, don’t forget to dip the tail in some chartreuse dye. As for boating, there has been a substantial increase in paddlecraft finding their way to the water. Don’t forget that everyone onboard must have a lifejacket and children ages 12 and younger must wear the lifejacket. Don’t forget, when you take your watercraft out of the water to check for Aquatic Invasive Species (AIS). It’s everyone’s job to keep Pennsylvania’s waters pristine for future generations!

Crawford County

Pymatuning Reservoir

Anglers are catching Walleye in the north and south end of the reservoir using crawler harnesses and stickbaits in 19 to 25 feet of water. Anglers are catching Muskellunge trolling from boats north of the causeway. Anglers are catching catfish and Yellow Perch throughout the reservoir. When fishing from the bridge of the causeway, be courteous and reel your lines in to allow boaters to pass. Reminder to all boaters that it is illegal to operate a pontoon boat at any speed while a person is riding outside the passenger carrying area. This violation poses a serious safety concern and is one that will be addressed accordingly.

Woodcock Creek Lake

The lake is at summer pool. Trap net survey showed signs of fish left over after the draw down. There is a new kayak dock at the launch area.

Tioga County

Cowanesque Lake

Recreational boating traffic has been moderate to heavy on the weekends. Boaters who are looking to fish are encouraged to fish early mornings up to 10 AM and from Sunset into the night. Boaters are reminded to obey the marked slow no wake areas on the lake, and when skiing ensure to have a competent observer.

Boaters visiting from New York state please understand the Boating Safety Education requirements before operating your vessel. Boaters regardless of residency, who are born on or after Jan 1st, 1982 are required to have completed a Boating Safety Education course to operate a motorboat with a horsepower (HP) rating greater than 25 HP. All PWC operators must have completed the education course as well.

Jefferson County

Cloe Lake and Kyle Lake

Kayakers and boaters are taking advantage of summer and getting out on both Cloe Lake and Kyle Lake. Bass and Panfish are being caught at Cloe Lake. Stream fishing has been very slow lately. Kayakers are still able to get out and explore some of the streams. The majority of anglers are currently targeting Bass. Topwater lures are working early in the mornings and late in the evenings.
