Pennsylvania Fishing Report – August 13, 2021

Muskellunge are hitting artificial baits and nightcrawlers while sunfish, trout and smallmouth have been regularly hitting minnows.

Crawford County

Pymatuning Reservoir

Anglers are catching Walleye north and south of the causeway using crawler harnesses and stickbaits in 19 to 25 feet of water. Anglers are catching Muskellunge trolling from boats north of the causeway. Anglers are catching catfish and Yellow Perch all throughout the reservoir. When fishing from the bridge of the causeway, be courteous, and reel your lines in to allow boaters to pass. Reminder to all boaters that it is illegal to operate a pontoon boat at any speed while a person is riding outside the passenger-carrying area. This violation poses a serious safety concern and is one that will be addressed accordingly.

Shenango River

Anglers are catching panfish and catfish at the tailwaters. Anglers are catching Muskellunge using live bait. When kayaking or canoeing on the river, be sure to have an USCG approved PFD for every person onboard as well as a sound producing device.

Forest County

Allegheny River

Boaters are reminded that children, 12 years of age and younger, must wear a PFD while underway in a canoe, kayak, or on boats less than 20 feet in length. Anglers are catching Smallmouth Bass since the water level has stabilized.

Tionesta Lake

The US Army Corps of Engineers has eliminated the Slow No Wake Area from the point to the dam which includes the Marina Area. The area from the intake tower to the dam is still a Slow No Wake Area.

Tionesta Creek

Boaters are reminded that a registration or use permit is required to use the Pennsylvania Fish and Boat Commission Access Area at the Nebraska Bridge.

Clarion River

Boaters are reminded that children, 12 years of age and younger, must wear a PFD while underway in a canoe, kayak, or on boats less than 20 feet in length. Boaters should also be aware of State Park regulations, while navigating through Cook Forest State Park.


Northcentral Region

Centre County

Sayers Lake

Anglers are reporting good success with Crappies in the area of the causeway ( RT 26 Bridge). Live minnows seem to be best for targeting Crappies. Anglers are reporting Channel Catfish and Bullhead Catfish in the evening hours at upper lake access. Nightcrawlers, chicken liver, and various scented preformed baits are working well.

Colyer Lake

Anglers are reporting having success with a variety of fish including Bullhead, Sunfish, Crappie, and Bass. Popular baits include: nightcrawlers, minnows, and spinners. Lake access areas have been providing good fishing opportunities with most success coming in the cooler hours of the day.

Poe Valley Lake

Anglers are reporting Sunfish and Trout in various areas of the lake. Most success has been on live minnows and nightcrawlers.

Lycoming County

West Branch Susquehanna

Anglers are currently having luck catching Walleye and Smallmouth Bass utilizing artificial baits or nightcrawlers. Jigging in deeper holes near the bottom has proven to be the most successful technique.

Potter County

First Fork Sinnemahoning (KEYSTONE SELECT)

The Keystone Select Special Regulation Area has been expressing an extended stocked trout presence with the summer rains. Anglers have been catching Rainbow trout using Glo Bug Patterns, Hoppers, Stimulators, Green Weenies, and other standard nymph patterns. Silver spinners with red blades have also been reported as effective. Anglers are encouraged to become familiar with the special regulations before fishing, and respect adjacent private property and owners.

Lyman Lake

The reservoir is at a normal level, and boaters are encouraged to use the complex if looking for alternative options to nearby Pine Creek. Remember to obtain a launch permit prior to your trip.
