Mandatory Cold Weather Life Jacket Wear
Mandatory cold weather life jacket wear began on November 1st. This means that a person must wear a US Coast Guard approved personal flotation device (PFD or life jacket) while underway or at anchor on boats less than 16 feet in length or any canoe or kayak from November 1st through April 30th.
Erie County
Area Steelhead Tributaries
Tributaries are finally free of ice and very fishable with Steelhead found in good numbers for angling. The streams have been stocked with Steelhead smolts and anglers will find themselves in areas where every cast will find one at the end of your line. Please be gentle in removing the Steelhead smolts from the hook and return them to the water as soon as possible. Anglers in an area where there are a lot of Steelhead smolts, should consider moving to a different section of the stream.
East/West Basin Ponds
The East/West Basin ponds on Presque Isle State Park are closed to fishing until the opening day of trout season on April 2, 2022, at 8:00 a.m.
Mentored Youth Trout Day
Mentored Youth Trout Day will occur on March 26, 2022. Those youth who possess a voluntary permit and their mentor can fish in stocked trout waters beginning at 8:00 a.m.
Presque Isle Bay
Presque Isle Bay shoreline fishing is starting up now that the ice has finally receded. Please remember that the daily limit for Yellow Perch is 30 and the minimum size is seven inches.
Venango County
Venango County Trout Stocking for 2022
Trout stocking in Venango County for 2022 is in full swing. Individuals are urged to reference the 2022 TROUT STOCKING link found on the agency’s home page, to verify the appropriate date and time of your favorite streams.
Stocked Trout Waters Closure
Anglers are reminded that stocked trout waters are closed to fishing from February 21st to 8:00AM on the opening day of the regular trout season in April (04/02/2022), unless included in the Stocked Trout Waters Open to Year-Round Fishing Program.
Walleye Closure (Commonwealth Inland Waters)
Anglers are reminded that Walleye season closed on March 15th. No Walleye may be taken, killed, or held in field possession.
Two Mile Run Reservoir (Justus Lake)
Two mile Run Reservoir (Justus Lake) remains open to general fishing, however, during the 2022 closed period of February 21st to 8:00AM on the opening day of the regular trout season in April (04/02/2022), no trout may be taken, killed, or possessed. Anglers are catching Yellow Perch and crappie.
Northcentral Region
Tioga County
Anglers are reporting success fishing some of the class A wild streams in the area. With spring fast approaching, it is a great time to explore new angling opportunities while the stocked trout waterways are closed. Look for fishing to pick up at Hills Creek Lake, as warming water temperatures will trigger the spawn of multiple species of Panfish found in the lake. Try targeting them in the shallows around structure. Many areas of the lake are easily accessible from shore.
Centre County
Spring Creek
The water temperature is in the low 40’s. Anglers are reporting that the fish are starting to spread out and are actively feeding. Nymphing pocket water with caddis or stonefly imitations is still reported to be producing the most fish. Some anglers are reporting success fishing dry flies. The Blue-winged olive hatch has officially started! Streamers are also currently working to entice hungry, active fish.
