Rhode Island Fishing Report
The Frances Fleet in Point Judith saw some improved fishing on their trip earlier this week and will be taking advantage of the nice forecast on Friday. Captain Cole has been moving around and working some rockpiles closer to the island, and is finding a good number of keeper cod, along with plenty of shorts coming over the rail. Each trip is seeing more bait and the fishing should start improving quickly with the days getting longer and warmer.
Dustin, at Rhode Island Kayak Fishing Adventures told me that the freshwater bite has been improving as the weather becomes more springlike each week. Largemouth bass anglers are starting to find some fish in the shallows on the warmer days, and they have been crankbaits, jigs, and glide baits. Massachusetts trout stocking is in full bloom and the Rhode Island opening day is right around the corner! Dustin is currently booking kayak and shore fishing trips for the 2022 upcoming season, so be sure to book asap while there is still an abundance of available dates.
Big Bear Hunting and Fishing has seen an increase in largemouth bass interest from anglers as the weather has warmed up. The warmer days have started to bring fish into the shallows, and they have been willing to take live bait, along with several artificial offerings. Just a reminder, the shop will be teaching a reel cleaning class on Thursday April 14th, and they are still offering all their remaining ice fishing gear at 20% off through March.
