Rhode Island Fishing Report

The Frances Fleet in Point Judith has had a few weeks off due to the weather, and to take care of some repairs, but with some weather windows on the horizon, they will likely be sailing as soon as possible. To check on the schedule for upcoming trips and to make reservations check out their website or call the office.

Ralph, at Crafty One Customs has the shop open once again, and will be open from 9-6 Wednesday through Friday and 9-3 on Saturdays. The lakes and ponds are opening back up, after skimming up last weekend, and anglers are still taking advantage of the mild winter. The salmon fishery throughout the state continues to garner interest, with good reports coming in from Melville, among others. Saltwater reports have been quiet, but with more settled weather on tap, we may see some more cod and/or holdover bass interest.

Elisa, from Snug Harbor Marina reports that anglers are still looking for holdover striped bass on the warmer days, and while it’s been a grind, they are starting to find more fish. Cod reports have been quiet, but that bite will likely improve as the weather remains mild and the days get longer. Freshwater anglers are still taking advantage of the recently stocked salmon and trout, as reports seem to be increasing with the mild weather.

Dustin, at RI Kayak Fishing Adventures, told me that the warm weather has given anglers many opportunities to get on the water. Holdover striped bass and white perch fishing have remained solid. Most of the holdover fish are schoolie size, however some bigger fish have started to be in the mix lately as well. The trout and Atlantic salmon fishing has remained very consistent for most anglers, since the last round of stockings. The lakes and ponds across the state are all devoid of ice and largemouth anglers are reporting more bass activity. If you’re considering kayak fishing, Dustin reminds anglers to wear a dry suit, as the water temperatures are still cool. Opportunities and target species will increase as we get closer to spring, so head over to rikfa.com to book your kayak and/or shore fishing trip today!

Rhode Island Fishing Forecast

There are no signs of any sort of winter on the horizon, as anglers continue to take advantage of the spring-like, open water fishing opportunities.

Rhode Island saltwater anglers should start to see more opportunities to find some cod, with the temperatures staying mild, and the wind forecasts starting to improve. Reports from the cod grounds have been quiet, but most anglers are still finding a few when they get a chance to venture out. Holdover striped bass reports have seen a bit of an uptick, and it should only improve more, with the water temperatures kicking up a few more degrees. Recent trout and Sebago Salmon stockings have produced good catches for anglers working the rivers and streams. Basically, all of the fresh bodies of water are free of ice and will provide ample opportunities for bass, pickerel, and panfish.
