Talk to Captains who have fished at the major big game destinations all around the world- Australia, Guatemala, Panama, Galapagos – and they’ll tell you, near the very top of that list is the Northeast Canyons. They certainly proved their worth over the last week, with captains returning having caught big numbers of yellowfin, bigeye tuna to 250-plus-pounds, and a smattering of billfish. Canyon season is in full swing, and where you can find a good eddy or temp break, the action is off the charts.

Great action in the Wilmington, with some white marlin in the fray along with the yellowfin has made for happy captains in the mid-Atlantic.

New York/New Jersey
An influx of big yellowfin to NJ’s midshore grounds created some fun fishing with jigs and poppers. Bluefin to 70 inches have also been caught on jig-and-pop gear this past week.

Atlantis was the place to be, with bigeye in the deep, yellowfin on the shelf, and enough action that some captains put away the spread and broke out the spinning rods to catch bigeye on jigs and stickbaits. This type of action does not happen every season.
