Now we’re talking. Boats throughout the Northeast took advantage of a mid-week weather window, and the tuna, in the canyons at least, were there and hungry.

The giant bite continues to be reliable for captains off Rhode Island. Boats are running into surface-feeding GBFTs off Cape Cod as well, and while bait is taking fish, casting with topwaters has proved frustrating. A light-tackle tuna bite is picking around Massachusetts, but captains are keeping specifics close to the vest. Boats fishing east of Chatham mid-week reported sparse action. South of Martha’s Vineyard is holding more tuna life. Stellwagen and north to Maine, there’s been a fair showing of recreational-sized fish so far this season.
As with New York and New Jersey, the canyons have been hot, and it’s proving to be a good year for bigeye.
Coolest catch of the week belongs to Thomas DiChiaro, who found a fnning white marlin on the way to the tuna grounds and got it to eat a metal jig. Check the video here.
