The final tally at the White Marlin Open was in the high 300 range, well short of the tournament record, which is north of 1,000 white marlin released, though the weather impacted this year’s count. With improved conditions this week, anglers got out and found bigeye and billfish.

New Jersey/New York

A hot and cold yellowfin bite developed toward Hudson Canyon, with anglers catching big numbers one day and blanking the next. Closer to shore, a mixed bag of bluefin sizes continue to bite, while mahi fishing is picking up around Monster Ledge. Fishermen continued to tally big numbers of small bluefin off Montauk this week on jigs, troll, and chunks–and even some on the fly!

Tuna fishing ran a bit more hot and cold south of Block this week. Giant fishing in Cape Cod Bay and north was steady, and mahi are being reported south of the Vineyard, including some surprisingly large fish hanging around the pots.
