Northeast Offshore Report - September 27, 2024

From before the blow, Brian Mawdsley fed a live whiting to this 69-inch bluefin.

Reports were scarce this week, as the wind kept boats at the dock, but in this week’s video report, Adam LaRosa of Canyon Runner provides a masterclass in how to piece together the available information to find the fish after a long blow.

Boats are back fishing off the Mid-Atlantic. From Sunset Marina in OCMD:

“We’re happy to see the fleet fishing again! Yesterday’s fishing report: Tighten Up came back from an overnight with 11 white releases, Seven brought in a 162 lb bigeye and released two whites, Pole Position came back with their mahi limit and tilefish, Pachanga had two white releases and brought back a yellowfin, and Boss Hogg had 3 white releases and plenty of mahi! We have plenty of boats fishing today check out our stories for more updates as the fleet returns!”

New Jersey/New York

Headboats have been getting back to the canyons since Tuesday, and they’re finding plenty of mahi (with big ones), but the tuna fishing on these first trips back to the edge has been slower, with a few yellowfin caught.

New England

Giant tuna fishermen were the first to get back out, catching and releasing fish until the quota opens again in October. As for recreational tuna, fishermen are eager to see if the fish are still off Rhode Island, and if some more opportunities are present on Cape Cod.
