Those looking to wet a line in Lake Winnipesaukee or Sebago Lake are warming up for those big water lakes with brook trout and bass in smaller water bodies. The size fish, however, doesn’t necessarily match the size of the water body, thanks to pike in the Connecticut River and the Androscoggin River.
New Hampshire Fishing Report
Gabe Gries reported that the crappie bite has been on fire in the Connecticut River border water between New Hampshire and Vermont. Fish finder snapshots show them to be stacked in shallow water. While you’re jigging for slabs, set out a few traps for a shot at pike or walleye. I’ve also heard of willing crappie and bass in Bellamy Reservoir and Pawtuckaway Lake. Farther north, anglers are starting to get out on Waukewan, Wicwas, and White Lakes. Wicwas gets the nod for not only bass and pickerel, but is noted for some impressive horned pout. Waukewan is more inclined to serve up smallmouth bass, rainbow trout, and white perch, while White Lake has brook trout. The bass fishing for largemouth and smallmouth in Todd Lake is showing impressive results already.
Coastal Maine Fishing Report
Meanwhile in Maine, Zach from Saco Bay Tackle Company said that anglers have been frequent visitors to the shop self self-service shiner tank thanks to solid local ice. The hunch as to where they are fishing is Kennebunk Pond for brown trout and the Otter Ponds and Trickey Pond for brook trout. The northern stump-filled section of Lake Sabattus is a solid bet for pike, as is the Androscoggin River. The former also has some impressive white perch, while the Andro has cooperative crappie. Highland Lake in Windham reportedly has good hardwater and willing crappie, white perch, pickerel, and black bass.
New Hampshire And Southern Maine Fishing Forecast
Anglers who long for larger lakes are making do in the Connecticut River on the border of New Hampshire and Vermont for crappie. Far from just being a panfish place, pike and walleye also prowl there. For pike potential in Maine, check out Sabattus or the Androscoggin River. Other options are the Otter Ponds for trout, with Trickey Pond tops to target trout.
