Despite the vast amounts of schoolie sized stripers and blues around, we decided to aim higher and look for some keeper-sized bass. We rigged our rods, packed the boat, and made our voyage down cape to Monomoy. Little did we know that this day would turn into an epic day of fishing that would leave us thrilled and wanting more.

When we finally made it to Monomoy we saw some nice rips and our anticipation grew. We let out our wire rods and began jigging back and forth along the rips. After about an hour of jigging we didn’t catch anything. We brought our lines in and decided to head for another rip. As we were cruising along we noticed some top water action. We turned the boat in the direction of the swirls and grabbed our spinning rods. The next thing we knew we were casting our poppers into a frenzy of bass. First cast we hooked up with one of the biggest fish of the day. From that moment on we are catching fish all day long. The schools of stripers were feeding on top of the water, which allowed us to cast into schools rather easily. It was an exhilarating experience watching the huge bass crush our poppers over and over again. After several fights our arms became tired but that couldn’t stop us from catching fish. At the end of the day we reeled in nearly twenty stripers and almost every fish was a keeper. It was an awesome day of fishing that set the tone for the summer. These are the days that make fishing such an enjoyable experience and leave you wanting to get back on the water.
