I’m pretty sure that current Van Staal reels were previously called Crack reels, which were even previously called Luxor reels, though I’m sure the models have changed significantly. I used both the Luxor and the Crack in the Long Island surf many years ago. They were great reels then and I’m sure great reels now.
I still have a Crack 300, definitely same shape as a VS, but it weighs a ton and the roller is frozen. Used to have an old Luxor too, I have no idea what happened to it.

I hope I win, it will be given to my grandson who has become an avid fisherman and loves making his own lures and tying flies. Also searching all over the area for undisclosed fishing spots. He is so committed. He is following in his Papa’s shoes,he calls me the wizard.
Tried a VS once, loved it. I haven’t been fishing much at all lately, but plan to get rid of the wreck in my back yard and get a boat that works this year and get back on the water. It would be nice to have something nicer than my old Penns to get out with!
