Free is always nice. Jk. Over the last 40 years in the surf I’ve owned (and dunked, and soaked) many reels. Being of average mechanical talent and below average in performing maintenance I’ve had reels that didn’t last a season and one that didn’t last a weekend. Be that as it may ive got 2 shimano bait runners that can still fish after 25 years. Yea they’ve taken their lumps. One went for a little swim off race point with a bass. Wild Bill (anyone remember him?) reeled in a double on his bottom rig. One was his and the other had my hook (with line still attached). I pulled the line in hand over hand and there was the rod (with the shimano, kind of the point of the story). I walked down the beach, reeled of the rats nest of line, rebaited, and kept catching bass. I sprayed the reel down with water when I got home and that was that. They take a lickin.

Serious improvement from the previous model. Even though the older models we used for casting to blues/bass/albies on our casting charters, they were tough to beat for the price and withstood the beating while having caught thousands of fish in the process. I’m considering purchasing one even if by chance my name is pulled out of the hat. Good luck to all.

All of my reels are Shimanos. Every fishing trip ends with a freshwater rinse of the real. I have NEVER had to get a repair on my reals and some are well over 10 years old.
