Of all the gear, surfcasters are hardest on their boots. The uneven terrain, the long walks, and occasional rock climbing all scuff and damage footwear. So when a new wading boot hits the scene that touts its durability, it’s bound to get attention.
As part of their Spring and Summer 2026 lineup, Grundens has introduced the new Rock Armor wading boot. Corrosion-resistant materials, a flexible, durable construction, and the tear-resistant design all make it seem like a promising option for surfcasters. Some of the OTW Crew will be fishing these in the coming season, and will post a review in a couple months.

Here’s the press release from Grundens.
The Rock Armor Wading Boot was built to conquer boulder-strewn rivers, briar-choked trails, and every challenge in between. Its durable, quick-drying synthetic upper and comfortable lining pair with an ease-of-entry gusset system that makes slipping in and out with neoprene booties effortless. The exterior molded, wear-resistant Rock Armor shield protects your feet from stone bruising and abrasion and is constructed as a single sheet of perforated TPR (Thermoplastic Rubber) bonded to a robust mesh backing, providing extreme toughness, elasticity and flexibility, while minimizing seam failure due to the limited need for seem stitching.

The perforated hex pattern sheds water, increases flex for dynamic movement, and leverages one of the strongest geometric structures to resist tearing under repeated stress. Corrosion-resistant hook-and-lace hardware ensures a secure fit, while high-grip gum rubber outsole and rubber sidewall wrap in high-wear zones providing unshakable traction and long-term durability.
