
Captain Rob Aaronson from the Charter Boat “Oh Brother” Wins Largest Overall Shark
More than 350 anglers participated in Montauk Marine Basin’s Annual Shark Tag Tournament from June 23-25. Captain Rob Aaronson won the categories of “Largest Overall” and “First Place” Thresher with a 278.4-pound catch.
First Place Mako was awarded to George Limosani Jr. from the boat “Golden Rod” with a mako weighing in at 236.8 pounds. James Gravel Jr. from the boat “Taylor May” won the First Place Blue Shark category with a 252.8-pound blue shark. Additional rankings include:
– Second Place Thresher: Art Novarro – 201.8 pounds on the “Andiamo”
– Second Place Mako: Bob Ley – 231 pounds on the “Diggin It II”
– Third Place Mako: Mark Durso – 229 pounds on “The Provider”
– Second Place Blue: Matt Czepiel – 227.8 pounds on the “Lauren J”
– Third Place Blue: Jim Bardley – 216.4 pounds on the “Team Dibner”
“It was another successful tournament weekend,” said Courtney Darenberg, president of Montauk Marine Basin. “We want to thank all those who participated this year and continue to support our efforts to conserve fishing as a sport, as well as contributing to scientific studies.”
Montauk Marine Basin continues to strive for greater fisheries conservation. The competitive angling tournament abides by increased weight limits with a primary goal of responsible fishing.
