New Sand Eel "Teasers" from Tsunami

It seems like every species of gamefish in the Northeast – from fluke to stripers to bluefin tuna -eats sand eels, those pencil-thin baitfish with the silvery sides and olive-green backs. Sand eels have been especially abundant the past few years, and lure makers have had a chance to crank out some pretty good imitations – but none have come as close to the real thing as this “holographic” version by Tsunami.

This version is unweighted and rigged on a super-strong hook. The hook has several bends in the shank to keep the lure solidly fixed in place. I predict the 6″ model will be very popular with surfcasters this fall, to fish as a “teaser” ahead of needlefish and metal-lip plugs. Look like they’ll also make great cod teasers. Check out the 6″ and 8″ versions:

Tsunami Sand Eel Teaser
The new "Swim Eel" by Tsunami should make an excellent striped bass lure fished as a teaser ahead of a plug.

They look good. Smart idea too. Not reinventing the wheel, but at least they come with a strong hook that doesn’t need to be swapped out like other teasers right out of the package.

how would i rig it up ahead of a plug

Check out the article in the August issue of On The Water on summertime surfcasting for a diagram – but basically, you rig a short (10 inch?) dropper line that comes off the swivel at the front of your leader, about 3 feet ahead of your plug.

Have you checked Bernies? They are a very well-stocked shop, especially when it comes to surfcasting.

Are these sand eel teasers on the market yet. Everyone has the weighted ones but I have yet to see the unweighted ones.

They look good, but they should make them with a “shakey head” jighead by Megastrike and they would look like they ae feeding in the exact pattern that they do naturally. Only problem is, Megastrike currently does not make a size big enough for surcasting . . .these folks should get together and design this . . .it would be a killer weapon in one’s arsenal for targeting stripers!

What retailer currently sells this? When I search for it . . .only the swim shad comes up, which is different.
        Thanks
