New Year's Resolution/Red Tuna Shirt Club Winner

We had several great resolutions sent in, but none caught my eye as much as the second one from Bill Gorski, who plans to:

“Fish the ‘never-been-fished-by-me spots that I have been threatening to fish, instead of the ‘old faithful’ spots.”

I liked it because it’s a resolution every fisherman can adapt that will help them catch more fish. It’s very easy to return to the same places year after year, and in many cases, that’s wise. But it’s also wise to add new spots to the rotation to learn their nuances as well so that you have more options when conditions or circumstance prevent fishing successfully in the “old faithful” spots.

Reading Bill’s resolution sent me to a Google Earth Map of Cape Cod where I began my hunt for the pond that I hope will give me my first 5-plus-pound largemouth bass next year, as opposed to the pond closest to my house that never fails to produce less than five fish, but has yet to give up anything bigger than a couple pounds.

Congrats Bill, you have a 6-month membership to the Red Shirt Tuna Club coming your way.  Wear them with pride.

Other noteworthy resolutions included the ones from Josh Moder who promises to spend more time fishing with his children and enjoying the land of the free after his 7-month stint in Afghanistan. Robert Nelson is determined to catch a striped bass from the surf during each month of 2012, and several anglers resolved to take others fishing, be they kids, parents, friends, or those who could really use some time on the water. Thanks to everyone who sent in resolutions and have a fish-filled 2012.
