Corey Smith of Swansea, MA joined the cup in mid-May. I had asked Corey what’s different this year, why not sign up before, and this is what I got. “I’ve wanted to sign up for the Cup for the past few years but just never got around to it. This year I finally just did it. I figured it would make me get out there more and hopefully catch a big one. Also if I do catch a big enough one to win, the prizes are pretty good also.” Corey soon learned that the little time it takes to register for the cup was worth it.
He weighed in his first fish a mere week after registering, a very healthy 24-pound 7-ounce fish. And was happy to say he was “officially” part of the cup. “I think I will definitely continue to sign up for the Striper Cup. I have probably fished more already this year then the past few years and also have caught more keeper bass than any other year. It felt good catching that first decent fish to weigh in.” Corey is part of the Aquidneck Island Striper Team who currently sits in 6th place for the Striper Cup, and his fish is right up there helping the team keep pace.
“I really like being a part of AIST. I’ve also thought about joining for a couple years and finally did after talking to Rich Carroll about it. I hoped by being part of that club I’ll learn a lot of new techniques and different places to fish. Which I have already have.”

Folks, this is what it’s all about. Going out, catching fish, and having fun doing it! You always learn new things when you fish, whether its techniques, spots or lures; and you never know when your fish of a lifetime will hit.

Way to go Corey…, nice team fish!
