ICAST 2012 Recap

Every year, fishing tackle manufacturers from around the globe convene for three days to show off the new products they’ll be unveiling for the following year. Invited to this sneak preview are fishing magazine editors, TV show hosts, and various fishing pros from all over the world. The whole ordeal is called ICAST (the International Convention of Allied Sportfishing Trades), and it’s a fishing-junkie’s dream come true. Where else can you have Larry Dahlberg of “The Hunt for Big Fish” show you in person how to fish his WideGlide lure, learn about the technology behind Berkley Gulp from the chemist who helped invent it, and then strike up a conversation with bass pro Mike Iaconelli in the food court?

The products on display range from truly innovative and unique to downright weird, so as we sort through the press releases, photos, catalogs, and videos from our three days in Orlando at ICAST 2012, we’ll post some of our finds, particularly the ones that we think will be useful for fishing right here in the Northeast.
