In my perspective I would much rather catch a 50 pound striped bass. I love
Freshwater and saltwater but you can’t beat having a monster 50 pound fighting machine on the end of your line. There are many reasons behind this, first off fishermen fish all their lives to catch a fish like that and some people never do catch one that size. To fish for striped bass isn’t all to easy either you can’t just throw a bobber and worm in the water you need to think strategically. You have to know the fish, their behaviors, bait preferences and you gotta know where they are. I could go on and on talking about it but you get what I’m saying. On the other hand if I lived in Vermont or an inland place I would definitely prefer to catch a 10 pound chunk but we live on cape cod where some if the best striper fishing is. That is my explanation of why a 50 pound bass, fluke aren’t bad either but c’mon man everyone wants a big striper!

I think a twenty pound fluke would be the best. Imagine drifting and think you hooked bottom when suddenly you get some thumping fluke headshakes.

I would rather catch a 10 pound largemouth bass because just imagine being the only one on a prestine, beautiful lake or pond at sunset with your rod bent, your drag SCREAMING, and the weight of a monsteress size bucketmouth on the end of your line.

    HAPPY FISHING!

Having grown up on the North Shore of Massachusetts, I have been fortunate to spend time fishing out of Salem Harbor. I have caught schoolie through 20 pound stripers, which themselves have provided an exciting challenge over the years. I have never come close to catching a 50 pounder, which would put me “on the board” for the Striper Cup. Therefore, I would love to catch a 50 pound striper!

Fishing the shores of New Jersey I target one and only one type of fish, stripers. I fish ONLY at night because that is when there are less crowds and I feel that being a surf vampire, night time is the best time for stripers. I think this is a awesome idea and they should have good luck with this venture. I am a lure junkie and probably will sign up for the Tackle Grab.

I myself would rather catch a 50 pound striper. I am only 15 years old and my father and i fish the canal very frequently. The biggest fish i have ever caught came out of there this year on 6/15/12. It was a fat and healthy 25 pounder. I couldnt even imagine landing a 50 pounder out of there. Battling against the current is hard enough with the fish i caught. But with a 50 pounder… man what a battle that would be!!! I would almost be afraid that cow would pull me in!! haha. But the 50 pound stripa is definitely my pick!!!

NOTHING LIKE A SURFACE STRIKE IN THE SURF ! BEEN FISHING 53 YEARS .HAVE NOT FISHED THE SURF IN 4 YEARS DUE TO INJURY.WOKING ON MY BUCKET LIST AND MAMA COW IS AT THE TOP!

50 lbs striper !! I’m from Vermont and go down the cape several times each year with my wife and love to fish. This last year my wife bought me a membership to the striper cup for our 25th wedding anniversary .
We really enjoyed the party, even though we walked away from fish at 1:30 to go take a shower and hit the party. So after the fesivities ended we ran back to our motel. took a quick nap and hit the beach again. high tide came the fish small ones at first, then the larger. Around 11pm my wife goes I got one, well did she! real screaming… what seemed like 5 minutes was probably more like 15-20 minutes . After a long battle I helped her land her 1st keeper 48″ 40+ lbs. wow !! several minutes later I landed my 1st keeper 28″ fish, what a night. yup I would love to catch a 50lber to be in her club

Tide is high. Sun is setting. Bait pen is full of unsuspecting pogies. Then the unforgettable sound that never gets old — a loud suctioning noise and then a slap, as if someone had plungered the top of the water and quickly followed it up with a giant slap on the surface. It’s essentially indescribable.

Nothing beats the sound of a live pogie getting slurped up on the surface by a fat 50 pound striper.

I would love to catch a 50 pound striper especially from the surf. I have been surf fishing for 20 yrs and have only caught fish to 30 pounds. Once I get my first 50 it is going on the wall and a tattoo on my arm.

While they are all hard to accomplish – I’ll go 50LB Striper- I feel the 50#’r would be the most difficult of the 3 to accomplish- remember, boat fish don’t count…….

  11. mike hollander

Thanks for receiving my entry. I would rather catch rather catch a 10-pound largemouth bass. It’s just been that one elusive goal I’ve been chasing since childhood.

  12. Brett Silva

…a 20-pound fluke. The rarest of the three and an immensely formidable opponent.

  13. LCpl R. Scully (USMC)

…a 10-pound largemouth bass. Probably the more likely of the three, depending on where I’m stationed at any giiven time.

  14. John F

A 50 lb Striper please. And thank you for giving me a wonderfully distracting day dream.

  15. James hurst

    Hi
I’d much rather catch a 20 lb fluke.
I fish for fluke from the shore and it is my favored fish to catch.
I have fished all over the world but nothing beats fluke.
I use 12 lb nano fill. 20 fluoro, a. Blue frog buck tail and a 3 o bait keeper hook. I use gulp bait but change the size and creature. E.g some time they want swimming mullet sometimes srimp some times swimming mullet ect

    Regards
    James

  16. Neal Larsson

Tough question… Although I've always wanted to catch a 10 lb largemouth, I probably want to catch a 50# striper the most but the 20 lb fluke would be the ultimate accomplishment in my opinion.

  17. Dan Horgan

It is a tough question. I’d have to think about for a few minutes each time asked! While I’d probably say striper off the beach, I’d pick the fluke on a boat. When I was ten, I had a fluke snap my rod in two while fishing in a dinghy in the bay. It looked as big as my boat!

  18. Patrick Striper Slaying Sachetta

50 lb striper. I'm in it for the fight!

    1. Myron Agee

Nothing like the fight of a lip hooked 50 lb striper on light gear. Here on the west coast anything over 20 lbs a monster .

  19. Patrick Striper Slaying Sachetta

50 lb striper. I'm in it for the fight!

  20. john roberts

I would most like to catch a 20 lb. fluke. Why? alot of my friends catch 10 lb large mouths. And there is always someone catching 50 lb. stripers. But I never herd of a 20 lb fluke that would also be a great fight plus the bragging rights.

  21. Sean

I will go for the 50lb striper – yet to get one that size

  22. Red

    20lb Fluke – closest I’ll get to a keeper halibut 🙂

  23. Paul A. Czech

None of these. I'll stick to 20 plus pound salmon in Pulaski, NY.

  24. Stephen Madden

Definatley a 50 lber ! My son got a 40 lber and i'll be darned of he got a 50 before ME !

  26. David Lynch

Idk this is tricky I really want a 50 butttttt a 20 lb fluke is a monster that prob eats 5 fluke which are big…. 20 lb fluke just cause that more then likely a 40 inch fluke… Fluke it is

    1. David Lynch

      "5 lb fluke "

  27. Gary G.

50 lb striper, The mount would look sweet on the wall!

  28. Charles Witek

20 pound fluke. Not even close. I waged a successful campaign to break 50 before I turned 20–and that was in '74. Sunfish–even 10-pound sunfish (which is really what largemouth are)–don't get me that excited. But a 20-pound fluke would be something off the charts–and out of all three, by far the most difficult feat.

  29. Patrick

    50 pound striper

  30. Dan Fratalia

50lb striper… the fight, the beauty of the fish herself, and the salt air

  31. Mark Mancuso

I do most of my fishing from shore and the 50 lbs. striper would be the greatest challenge. I have caught many stripers in the 40s and everyone was a tough fight. Best of all, still time to hook up on one!! See you in RI this month.

  32. Gino Polcaro

Would have said the 1# larry for sure before thsi summer, but I totally caught the saltwater but and want a 50# striper.

  33. Lou

50 lb Striper, the fight and lots of meals to remeber the event!

  34. steve

50# striper, have yet to catch one…10#+ LM has been accomplished, never really targeted fluke before

  35. Jon Pratt

Personally I would much prefer the 50# striper. I can’t imagine the excitement of reeling in such a beautiful and powerful fish. Large stripers are really fascinating to me.

  36. David Lynch

I consider a 10 pound largemouth to be the ultimate accomplishment in Massachusetts. I feel it is the most sought after trophy. We have all heard story after story of alleged 10 pounders , yet only 20 have been recorded in 50 years of record keeping.

  38. Jeff Chiappini

The 20-lb fluke! You would be able put a feast on for many fishing pals with that hog! Feed that many people are you are owed a few when they get their big catch!

  39. Shane Tress

50 pounder. Catching from a boat is one thing, but pulling from the surf is a whole new ball game.

  40. Evans G. Jerry Olwell

Have to go with the 50 lb. striper. Having already caught a 58 lb., I think the other two choices pale by comparison, a big striper is just so…..BIG!

  41. Melissa McGowan

Gonna have to say a 50 pounder because I have yet to get one even close but I'm still trying !

  42. Malcolm Gregoire

Oh man would I like to catch a 50 pound striper since all I have been catching is 4-5 lb small mouth bass and the odd pike and lake trout. Someday my ocean going vessel will be delivered from Santa.

  43. Ryan Bibeau

I’ll have to go with a 10 lb largemouth, to rub it in my buddies faces and see the big 10.00 on my digital scale

  44. AJ Rotondella

20 pound fluke any day, no question! There are enough 50+ bass out there to make me confident that I'll some day claim one. But a 20 pound fluke? How many of those do you hear about each year? Usually none.. Meanwhile you hear about several 50+ bass every week during the bunker run. Plus, if you kill a 20lb fluke nobody would cry about it like they do for big bass.

  45. Josh Shapland

I would rather catch a 50lb striper. Stripers are one of the strongest fish out there. When you hook into one, it’s like hooking into a submarine. One of the greatest fighting fish there is.

    1. Myron Agee

People underestimate the strength of a large striper . Why else would fishermen use 40 to 80 lb test for a fish that averages only 5 to 10 lbs here on the west coast.

  46. Asha Brown

I would rather catch a 50 lb Striper . These fish are so tasty. Rather in a boat or just fishing on shore its always a great catch. When we catch one its always a celebration with either family and close friends. Nothing like having close ones over to eat a delicious meal that may have taken you many days, weeks, or hours to catch.

  47. Rick Graf

I’d love to catch a 20 pound fluke. My earliest memories were of fishing with my grandfather off Second Beach in Newport, RI. We’d drift across the gravelly bottom with small snapper blues and regularly get fish in the 6 – 7 lb range (and every once in a while a gator blue!). My grandfather caught a 14-1/2 pound fluke that I’ll never forget. Fifty plus years later I still smile when I think about those trips.

  48. Gregg

Never caught a fluke before to be honest I don’t get to saltwater fish. My Dad caught a nice 32 inch striper on a bass rod once. And that was a good fight. I have had a 10lb lg mouth break off at the funnel once. But a 50lb striper… Count me in!
