May 14, 2013 – Rhode Island
Surfcaster Richard Reich was only hoping for a keeper fish that would make a good fish fry when the striper of a lifetime came along. Luckily, he was signed up for the Striper Cup!

In his words: “I was casting for two hours and only had one bump. I said “three more casts and I’m going home,” because my back was starting to cramp up. On the second cast, I had a fish explode on the teaser and I thought it sounded like a good fish. On the next cast, I hooked up and landed a 33-pounder on the chartreuse hackle teaser. I unhooked the fish and two casts later, I was on again. It felt like a big fish, and when I saw it in my light, knew it was a lot bigger than the previous one. It was on a plug that my neighbor had found on the beach and I had re-rigged for surfcasting. I pulled it into the shallows and weighed it in at Snug Harbor: 51.66 pounds. It was more fish than I could eat, so I donated it to the Food Pantry through Breachway Tackle.”
