Bluefish are crashing the surf and hard! Anglers are producing some quality bluefish in the 10-pound-plus range. Live lining bunker and bunker chunks have been the golden ticket to success with these toothy fish. The better reports are coming out of Milford and Stratford. Pictured here is Gary Hill with a solid blue out of West Haven, caught on fresh bunker.
Striper fishing is just getting better and better. The tidal rivers and surf are still producing some nice fish. However, the real cows are out on the reefs in LIS. Anglers are catching some serious stripers out on the sound on live eels and cut squid. Pictured here are Mike Benzinger and Justin Innes of Team Fin-Addicts with some quality fish from the surf. They are currently leading the OTW Striper Cup in the C&R division, in the shore category.
Pike action has really picked up over the past week. A lot of fish are being caught in the CT river, lake Zoar and lake Lillinonah. Pictured here with a beautiful northern is Jesse Hetherington. Spinner baits, large spoons and jointed Rapalas have been producing. Jesse and his friend Galen Rhodes caught more than a dozen pike that day. All fish were caught in 5 feet of water or less and were holding tight to weed lines and timber.
Largemouth fishing has been very productive still and many fish are now post spawn. It is a quick transition to feeding from the spawn. Good bass can be found hanging by weeds, lilly pads and docks. The fish are very aggressive in the early morning and evening and have been slamming topwater lures. Spooks, buzzbaits and scum frogs have been producing in the shallows. Pictured here is Philip Desrosiers with a chunky bass that he caught on a 4inch weightless Yum mighty bug that he worked quickly over lilly pads.
Fluke fishing is still going strong. Fish are being consistently found in 30-45 feet of water. Anglers are hooking up with fluke on bucktails and fluke rigs tipped with squid strips. Good reports are coming out of Black Point, Long Sand Shoal and Fishers Island. Pictured here is Chris Staab with a 22 inch fish. He said lots of shorts were caught, but bite is getting better!
