Nantucket Sound Weekend Report

This past weekend on Nantucket sound was a bit odd for us. We caught a bunch of fluke on Friday 6/20/14 – all keeper plus size on the shoals off Falmouth. They seem to be out there in huge numbers. We tried for stripers at Middle Ground but there was just nothing there.

Saturday we went to Monomoy and there were just no stripers at all. Looked all around Handkerchief and Bearse’s shoal. Nothing — the water temp there was 59 degrees. We ended up doubling back to Nantucket sound to salvage the morning and went to our usual sea bass spots. Once the current picked up we started to do very well with the sea bass at Bishop & Clerks and Yarmouth Tire Reef. We didn’t catch a ton of sea bass but they were all 4 to 5-pound fish which was great.

Saw lots of charter boats trolling and snapping wire line at Bishops for stripers but they weren’t picking any up.

The other reports I got on Sunday were that the striper fishing at Race Point is about the only striper action right now and is still hot. Had another boat go out to Chatham for stripers and they saw lots of bait in the water but no bites.

Could it be the seals are pushing the bass away?
