SpeedMaster 14000XTC
With the needed gear durability and Shimano’s Hi-Speed Drag to put the brakes on big fish, surf anglers are now offered Shimano’s new SpeedMaster 14000XTC. Designed with features proven to handle the surf, the new SpeedMaster surf reel retails for $149.99 (USD), and will be making its debut at the World Fishing & Outdoor Expo this weekend in Suffern, N.Y., the Saltwater Fishing Expo in Edison, N.J. on March 15, and the New England Saltwater Fishing Show in Providence, R.I. on March 22.
Surf anglers will experience Shimano’s X-Ship technology in the new SpeedMaster 14000XTC reel, where large precision cut gears and increased bearing support allows them to reel with maximum pressure when fighting big fish. “Add in our Super Slow Oscillation that puts line back on the spool perfectly to contribute to your next long-distance cast,” said Trey Epich with Shimano’s product development staff, “along with the added comfort of Parallel Body design, and anglers have an ideal reel to target big fish off Montauk, the Jersey Shore, the Cape Cod Canal and Hatteras.”
While the SpeedMaster 14000XTC will interest East Coast, surf anglers there are applications throughout the southeast and Gulf Coast, as the use of long-distance casting surf gear grows in those regions.
The SpeedMaster 14000XTC feature large diameter long stroke spool to retrieve up to 41-inches per crank with its powerful 4.3:1 gear ratio. It can handle up to 510 yards of 50-pound test PowerPro, or 440 yards of 16-pound mono.
Keeping the needed performance combined with value in mind, Shimano is also introducing a new line-up of SpeedMaster surf rods, including a 12-foot casting and six spinning rods ranging from nine- to 12-feet in length. They’ll put surf anglers within range with the right actions, ‘Long Cast Concept’ guide spacing, and Fuji K-Frame guides. All seven models retail for $149.99 (USD).
SpeedMaster Surf Rods
When the action is off a beach or jetty, you need the tackle that puts you ‘within range’. Continuing its efforts aimed at surf fishing, Shimano introduces a new line-up of SpeedMaster surf rods, a seven-rod series to handle most surf situations and each priced at $149.99. The rods will be making their debut World Fishing & Outdoor Expo this weekend in Suffern, N.Y., the Saltwater Fishing Expo in Edison, N.J. on March 15, and the New England Saltwater Fishing Show in Providence, R.I. on March 22,
and available soon from Shimano tackle dealers up and down the East Coast.
Featuring optimized rod action for long distance casting and to provide optimal lure action, “these new versatile surf rods will enable anglers to target stripers and blues – and species like snook and pompano from Florida beaches,” said Trey Epich with Shimano’s product development staff, “especially when paired with any our ‘Long Cast Concept’ surf reels including the new SpeedMaster 14000XTC.”
The two-piece SpeedMaster surf rods have 24-ton graphite blanks, Fuji Black K-Frame guides with Alconite rings, are designed with Shimano’s custom ‘Long Cast Concept guide spacing, and feature shrink tube grip material.
The series is offered in six spinning models, including medium-power, medium-fast action nine- and 10-foot rods; a medium action 10-foot-six, and medium-fast action 11-foot and 12-foot all with medium-heavy power; and a heavy power, fast action 12-footer.

For use with casting reels such as Shimano’s Calcutta or Tranx 400, there’s also a SpeedMaster fast action 12-foot casting rods in medium-heavy power.
