On The Water Partners with Fishing for the Mission 22 to Support Veterans in Crisis

Cape Cod, MA – On The Water, the Northeast’s leading authority on fishing and boating, is proud to announce a new fundraising initiative to support Fishing for the Mission 22, a nonprofit organization dedicated to saving lives and ending veteran suicide.

For every Columbia PFG “Stars and Stripers” shirt sold, $10 will be donated directly to Fishing for the Mission 22, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit founded by Iraq War veteran Harold F. Skelton. This organization offers therapeutic fishing experiences, vocational marine mentorship, and critical support services to veterans affected by post-combat stress and mental health challenges.

“At On The Water, we believe in the healing power of fishing—and we’ve seen firsthand how time on the water can bring peace, purpose, and community,” said Chris Megan, Publisher of On The Water. “Both my father and oldest brother served our country in the Army and Marines, respectively, and we’re honored to partner with Fishing for the Mission 22 in supporting veterans who have given so much for our country.”

Fishing for the Mission 22 was born from Skelton’s own survival story.

“As an Iraq War veteran and survivor of suicide, I found healing through the therapeutic power of fishing and the outdoors,” said Skelton. “Inspired by my own journey, I established programs to help fellow veterans battling post-combat stressors find renewal in nature. Our mission is to save lives and end veteran suicide.”

The organization operates a resource center in Buzzards Bay, Massachusetts, and provides a range of services—from hardship grants and behavioral health support to pathways for marine careers. The name “Mission 22” is a solemn reminder of the estimated 22 veterans lost to suicide each day in the United States.
