In The Episode
Dr. David Fish grew up in Brockton, MA and spent his summers chasing fish in Hull, MA. He graduated as an honor student from Boston University’s Goldman School of Dental Medicine in 1984 – which On The Water’s Anthony DeiCicchi knew was paid for by his success catching and selling fish. Having grown up in Hull as well, Anthony was aware of Dave’s fishing exploits, which bridges the gap to the generation that influenced Dave’s passion for fishing, which Anthony’s own father and friends were part of. This podcast provided a trip down memory lane for Anthony as well as some insight of what fishing was like on the south shore of Massachusetts decades ago.
In this episode of the On The Water Podcast, Dave walks through:
- The progression from freshwater ponds to Boston Harbor’s legendary fisheries
- What it was like fishing during the 70s cod and striper boom
- How early tuna fishermen figured it out with zero blueprint
- The shift from heavy, old-school gear to light tackle innovation
- Why thinking differently—not gear—is the real edge
- How he literally paid his way through dental school by selling fish
This isn’t just a history lesson—it’s a masterclass in how great fishermen think, adapt, and separate themselves from the fleet.
