Fish are lingering in New Jersey, but definitely beginning to thin out. Some parts of the coast hit a slow spot this week, while others are seeing big numbers of big bass moving through.

Maryland/Chesapeake Bay Striper Fishing Report

Migratory fish have all but vacated the Bay. Fishermen are catching residents now that the season is open. On the ocean side, shorts, a few slots, and a few fish just over the 31-inch maximum size are hanging around Ocean City and the inlet.

New Jersey Striper Fishing Report

Big bass are thinning out in New Jersey, as they continue to push north. Bunker have been scarce but the usual structures and areas where the big Chesapeake fish hang still have fish holding. The bite windows are short, around the turn of the tide on both side sides. Fish in the 24- to 32-inch range are holding strong in the surf, inlets, and back bays, and many will take up residence through the summer.

Connecticut/Rhode Island Striper Report

Big numbers of stripers are at the Race and the Gut and should continue pushing into Connecticut waters.

Striper fishing ran a little hot and cold in Rhode Island around the moon, but there are still good numbers of big fish in Narragansett Bay, and a fresh wave of big stripers appears to be moving in.

Cape Cod/Massachusetts Striper Report

There’s been some shuffling of the striper deck around Cape Cod, with Buzzards Bay going a bit quiet while Race Point and some of the Outer Cape begins to heat up.

Some very large stripers are schooled up outside the 3-mile line in Massachusetts, but warming water should begin to bring them closer to the South Shore and into Boston Harbor.

New Hampshire/Maine Striper Report

Mackerel have moved in, bringing 40-inch stripers with them. As water warms, fish that beelined for the rivers when they first arrived are dropping down to the river mouths.
