Striper Migration Report- April 19, 2024

Schoolie stripers reach Martha's Vineyard, a wave of migratory bass follow bunker into Western Rhode Island, and 40-inch stripers file into the South Jersey surf.

In Week 4 of our 14-week Striper Migration Report videos, Assistant Editor, Matt Haeffner, checks in with OTW’s Nick Cancelliere on the current status of the migration in Western Long Island Sound, before heading up the coast to touch base with Stavros Viglas on Martha’s Vineyard. Matt and Nick discuss the patterns of resident stripers in and around NYC, the springtime forage base in the Western Sound, and anticipating when the next wave of migratory fish will move in. Then, Stavros Viglas fills us in on the arrival of Massachusetts’ first schoolies on the Vineyard, how to approach fishing the surf and the salt ponds during the early migration, and his most productive lures for the beginning of the season.

This week, as the spawn winds down in upper Chesapeake Bay tribs, a wave of migratory stripers hit Western Rhode Island with some large bunker schools, 40-inch stripers filed into the South Jersey surf, and liced-up schoolies reached the south coast of Massachusetts and the islands off of Cape Cod.
