Striper Migration Report- May 17, 2024

Trophy-size stripers stop off in northern New Jersey, the Long Island Sound sees a wave of 20-plus-pounders, and slot-class stripers continued to push north of Boston.

In Week 8 of our 14-week Striper Migration Report videos, OTW’s Assistant Editor Matt Haeffner touches base with Dustin Stevens of Rhode Island Kayak Fishing Adventures, and Captain Joe Diorio of Diorio Guide Service in Eastern Connecticut, to discuss the state of the migration in Southern New England. Matt and Dustin talk about likely areas to find stripers on squid, how to target those stripers from a kayak, and techniques to help you build a bite within the limited range a kayak allows. Then, Joe Diorio gives us the run down on holdovers and herring in the Connecticut River, timing the exodus of stripers from the rivers, and big fish tactics from the mud flats to the deep rips of the Eastern Long Island Sound.

Trophy-size stripers are congregating off the coast of Northern New Jersey and New York City this week, meanwhile, the Long Island Sound saw a solid wave of fish in the 20- to 30-pound range, and slot-class stripers continued to push north past Boston.
