When you’re trying to get fish to take the fly, but they’re just out of range, there are a few tactics you can try to draw them in closer. While shooting this Season 10 episode of On The Water TV, publisher Chris Megan and Chris Willi of Block Island Fishworks demonstrated one such tactic, using a hookless topwater plug to tease fish into range before feeding them the fly. This tactic works for blues and bass up here in the Northeast but is also popular among tarpon fishermen in the south and can be done with any topwater plug.
