Catching Shrimp on Cape Cod? | Living Off the Land and Sea

Andy Nabreski and Jimmy Fee hit the salt ponds of Cape Cod in search of the large numbers of brown shrimp that unexpectedly hit inshore waters from Long Island to Cape Cod this fall.

On The Water Sponsors

This fall, large numbers of brown shrimp hit the inshore waters from Long Island to Cape Cod. Never one to miss out on Neptune’s Bounty, Andy Nabreski hit the salt ponds of Cape Cod, recruiting Jimmy Fee, to scoop up a free shrimp cocktail.

In more than 40 years of surveying the waters off the South Coast of Massachusetts, only a single brown shrimp had been recorded, until 2021, when a single 20-minute trawl yielded more than 100 shrimp.

We don’t know if they’ll be back next season, but if they return, we’ll have the cocktail sauce ready.
