Video: Tog Fishing from Shore with Nate P

On The Water Sponsors

One of my favorite YouTube fishing programs over the last few years has been Shore Lunch with Nate P. The host, Nate P, breaks the mold of the standard catch-and-cook fishing video style by releasing his catch, and instead cooking an absurdly elaborate dish on a wobbly folding table along a windblown lake, river, or bay.

With Nate living in Minnesota and the show’s producer Erik S. living in Oregon, most of the episodes take place between those two states, with carp, suckers, sturgeon, and catfish the most common target species. Nate’s running commentary between bites (and there’s often quite a bit of time between bites) is insightful, self-deprecating, inspiring, and hilarious. He shares fun facts, that are usually more fun than factual, and occasionally has a guest join him.

This past spring, Nate and Erik made a run through the Northeast, filming with Joe Cermele of the Cut and Retie Podcast and Captain Frank Crescitelli of Fin-Chaser Charters, then rolled up to Cape Cod, where he and I fished for tautog and cooked some fresh squid I’d caught just a few nights before. I can honestly say, it was the best calamari I’d ever eaten in the middle of a salt marsh (or anywhere for that matter).

Check out the episode above, and be sure to subscribe to Nate’s YouTube Channel.
