One of my favorite freshwater bass techniques is the “Swim Jig,” partly because it feels familiar to this surfcaster. Tickling the top of a weedbed with a swim jig strikes a similar chord to sweeping a bucktail over some rockweed. But, it’s mostly one of my favorites because it’s deadly on big largemouth.
Ahead of the International Convention of Allied Sportfishing Trades (ICAST), when tackle manufacturers from around the world will unveil their latest and greatest wares, Z-Man has released a new premium swim jig.
According to the press release: the EVO Swim Jig is designed to be a tournament-grade tool that blends the refined styling of the wildly popular ChatterBait® Elite EVO with a premium swim jig platform designed to excel around grass, wood and other heavy cover. These jigs blend lifelike head contours and premium styling with intricate hand-painted head color schemes, matching multi-layer silicone skirting, and realistic 3D eyes. The jigs provide a level of realism not often found in the swim jig category.

The streamlined, balanced head shape allows the jig to track true at any retrieve speed while slipping easily through grass, wood, pads, and other dense cover while a heavy-duty 5/0 black nickel needlepoint hook that delivers the strength needed to pull big bass from thick cover.
And like every bucktail needs a strip of pork rind, every swim jig needs a trailer to slow the sink rate, increase the profile, and add action. The EVO Swim Jig has the hybrid split‑grip molded and wire trailer keeper that’s engineered to allow for easy rigging while locking ElaZtech and traditional soft plastic trailers firmly in place.
The EVO Swim Jig is available now in 1/4- and 3/8‑ ounce sizes for $5.99, and comes in eight pro‑selected color patterns. Learn more about Z-Man’s newest offerings at ZManFishing.com.
